Climate Change and Eco Anxiety

Climate change is a systemic, global phenomenon so enormous and complex that mental health experts are just beginning to synthesize supporting data on the prevalence, severity, and nature of its mental health impacts.

"Real wisdom is recognizing and accepting that every experience is impermanent. With this insight you will not be overwhelmed by ups and downs. And when you are able to maintain an inner balance, you can choose to act in ways that will create happiness for you and for others."

S. N. Goenka

Mindfulness and Meditation Resources

Vipassana Meditation

Certain types of wellness practices, like meditation, can have profound benefits for relieving suffering from mental health challenges. There are many types of meditation practices, but one which I've found most helpful personally, and which synthesizes most directly with somatic psychotherapy, is Vipassana.

This technique focuses on growing our capacity to be "equanimous", or non-reactive, to the ups and downs of life. By focusing on our body sensations, and learning to simply observe how these sensations are impermanent, rather than reacting to them, we gain new levels of peace and freedom from harmful habits of avoidance and craving.

Courses are offered for free in a 10-day format at retreat centers. Check out the www.dhamma.org website for more information.
